The New Normal (for now)

Good morning everyone.

First off I want to applaud all of those who have remained active and been helping Prayag with the social media account.  I have been receiving dozens of compliments and words of praise for the material that is being posted and the professional manner in which it is being handled to the point where I was even stopped on a run through the park the other day while wearing my Chips shirt. Keep up the good work and remember there are a lot of scared people out there who are using you guys as a source of information.

Having spoken with Prayag and Uma we have concluded that we are going to move ahead with the next cycle. As of now, because Silver Communications is closed, we are going to have to be forced to print online via our new site (thanks Ryan!).  However, I am not done trying to figure out a way to actually print a paper that we can have admin hand out at our local food distribution sites.

Please understand this is all very fluid- we are getting directions from the county and then having those policies contradicted and canceled 24 hours later.  Right now we are focused on wrapping up Quarter 3.  I will be posting all new assignments on this site every Monday morning (probably VERY early in the am).

Our formal "live-check ins" will be on Mondays:

Period 1: 1:00-1:45
Period 6: 2:40-3:25

During these times I will be available by email (which I always am), or I will be available on GCHAT through the accounts.  Unfortunately given the chaos in my home with three little kids there really is no possibility for me to connect with you guys using zoom or any other kind of video platform.  (though if you want to set up your own meetings using this platform I will do my best to find a way in for advice).

As I mentioned before, we have been given very explicit instructions to keep focused on Q3 and not assign any long term dates.  To that end, I will be instructing Prayag and Uma to hold off on posting the cycle calendar until I have more information from the county.  For now we are going to focus on two assignments for the remainder of the quarter (that is all that instructors are permitted to issue).  Those two assignments will be

story session picks: deadline Friday April 10
La La Land response : deadline Friday April 17 (the material for this assignment is available in the post below this one- remember you need to be logged into the account for access)

I like to think that I have the type of relationship with you all where I can be totally honest. It's a bit of a mess over here right now, and I'm not just talking about the literal condition of my home.  I assume that we are all dealing with unique challenges that are placing strains on our own well-being as well as on those that we love. If you can't get the work done don't stress out about it.  Your primary concern needs to be your health and the health of your families.

My only ask is that you communicate with the EICs, or your section editors, or me if you will not be able to complete your assignment by the given deadline.

I think that is about everything- please email me if you have questions.  Some of you already have and I promise I'm trying to get to messages as soon as I can it just may take me a little longer than usual.

I will be posting more information on story session here on Monday morning

Take care of yourselves and each other
