Well here we are

Hey Silver Chippers!

First off I sincerely hope that everyone is healthy and safe and that all of your families are as well.  It was confirmed this morning that school will be closed for at least the next month.  I am hopeful that our elected officials and health care workers will do everything in their power to get us back to school by the end of the year.  However, in the event that school is closed for the remainder of the year I will be posting assignments here on this website for your reference.  Although we have not received official word from Jack Smith or MCPS I am assuming instructors will be given the green light to start assigning new material relatively soon.

I am including the two best articles I found on La La Land- one on the social / cultural problems that exist in the film (con) and the other on the film's brilliance (pro)- you are given permission to use any material you wish in your response as long as those materials are academically appropriate.  You can send drafts to me via email at mrstelzner@gmail.com I will post a revised deadline on this assignment by the end of the week.

*Prayag and Uma and I will will be speaking hopefully by the end of the week to determine how to proceed with publication going forward as during times like these I think your work is more important than ever.

Stay strong everyone, support your friends and families and know that I am thinking of each and every one of you.

The Film

Below you will find a link to the film for our critique assignment.  If you are not coming on the trip you will be able to access the material here until Sunday March 15.  If you want to review a sequence in more detail for your critique you can use the link here as well (however, most individual sequences are available on youtube)

Here is the assignment associated with the film- this will be a critique on story and cinematography.  As we discussed in our intro try to be specific about elements of cinematography when covering that element (name of the DP, lighting, camera movement and angles, symmetry of shots, use of color etc)

Try to pay special attention to the introduction sequence and how it connects the two meanings of "LA LA Land"  That sequence can be found here...
